1. What this page covers
Caption Generator (captiongenerator.page) is a small web tool run by an independent developer. This policy explains what the tool does with the text you enter, what the website collects, and the choices you have. The short version: the character counter and formatting work inside your browser; the caption generator described in section 2b sends what you type to our own server only when you press the button, and we do not store it. The Chrome extension AI Caption Generator has its own policy: captiongenerator.page/extension/privacy.
2. The text you enter
The character counter, the "more" mark, the hashtag count and the "keep line breaks" option work on your device, in your browser's memory. Apart from the caption generator in section 2b, nothing you type is sent to us or to anyone else, and we do not sell it. The server otherwise only delivers the pages, scripts and styles of the site. Your last tone, language and hashtag choice, and today's remaining count, are kept in your browser's local storage so the form remembers them; clearing site data removes them. There are no accounts, no sign-up and no user profiles.
2b. What goes to our server
The caption generator runs on our own server, because it needs an AI language model. This is what happens when you use it:
- What is sent. Only what the generator needs: the words you type about the post, the tone and the language you chose, plus a random install ID and the version of the page. Photos cannot be uploaded on this site. Nothing is sent until you press the "Write captions" button. The request goes without cookies.
- Who processes it. Our server passes it to OpenRouter (openrouter.ai), a service that runs it on a language model made by OpenAI, returns the five captions to you and then discards the request. We send every request with OpenRouter's zero-data-retention setting: OpenRouter does not store prompts or answers, and it passes them only to model hosts that do not keep them after processing (for OpenAI models this is currently Microsoft Azure). Neither uses the data to train models. The only exception is content flagged by automated child-safety screening, which may be kept for review and reporting as the law requires.
- What we keep. We do not store what you send or the captions you get. We keep only: a random install ID that our server gives your browser on first use (it is stored in your browser's local storage and is not linked to your name, email or any account); daily counters of how many times each install ID used the generator, to apply the free daily limit (kept for 8 days); and a one-way hash of your IP address with a key that changes every day, to stop abuse (kept for 2 days). Technical server logs (time, address of the request without its content, status) are deleted after 7 days.
- Deleting it. Clearing this site's data in your browser deletes the install ID. To delete the counters linked to it on our server, write to [email protected] with the install ID; it is the value named with "sid" in this site's local storage.
The legal basis for this processing is that you asked the tool to write the captions (performance of a service you requested), and our legitimate interest in preventing abuse of the free limit.
3. Cookies and analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and to see which pages are useful. We never send Google Analytics the names or contents of your files, the text you enter or any part of the result. Advertising features are off for everyone, and we do not share analytics data with anyone else.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, analytics cookies are off by default. Google works out your country from your IP address. Without your consent Google Analytics sets no cookies and stores no identifier on your device; the Google script still loads and can send Google a basic signal without a cookie: the page you opened, the time, your browser and device type, and your approximate location.
Everywhere else, analytics cookies are on by default. Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by the property code, which can last up to two years, and processes the same technical data.
Your choice. If your browser's time zone is in Europe, the pages ask "Allow analytics cookies?" Yes and No take one click each. The answer is kept in your browser's local storage and applies to the whole site, including the welcome page of our Chrome extension. You can change it any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of the tool, guide and privacy pages: choosing No removes the _ga cookies this site has set. You can also block cookies in your browser; the tool works the same without them.
Your browser connects to Google to load the analytics script, so Google sees your IP address. Google states that Google Analytics 4 uses it to estimate location and does not store it. Statistics are kept for 14 months.
4. Server logs
Like every website, our server writes a technical log of requests: the IP address, the time, the page address and the browser type. The site is served through Cloudflare, which also sees this traffic and protects the site from abuse. We use logs only to keep the site running and to look into errors; they are deleted after a short time.
5. Advertising
There are no ads on this site at the moment. If we add them later, this page will say so first, together with what the ad partner can see.
6. Children
The site is not aimed at children under 16 and knowingly collects no data from them.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data, to object to its processing, or to complain to a data protection authority. Because we hold no accounts and no files, in practice there is nothing about you to look up; analytics data is pseudonymous and is handled by Google under its own policy.
8. Contact

9. Changes
When the tool or the site changes in a way that matters for this policy, we update this page and the date at the top.
